The 12 Most Popular Chevy Silverado Questions Answered

While the Ford F-Series currently dominates the American truck market, the Chevrolet Silverado makes a strong claim to the throne. With Chevrolet radically redesigning the Silverado to be lighter, faster, and stronger than previous models, the Silverado is on pace to meet the performance scores of the F-Series while holding on to the elements that defines the marquee, like a steel framework.

In recognition of the launch of the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado, we have prepared a list of frequently asked questions.

Where are Silverado trucks made?

The Silverado and its mechanical twin – the GMC Sierra – are made in North America. Depending on the model and the model’s year, final assembly could be done in Flint, Michigan; Roanoke, Indiana; Oshawa, Ontario, Canada; or Silao, Guanajuato, Mexico. Even if final assembly was done in one country, it is likely that it received components from another; typically, trucks made in the United States would bear a sticker reflecting that fact. You can also check the VIN (vehicle identification number) to determine the vehicle’s country of final assembly: a VIN that starts with 1 is from the United States, 2 is from Canada, and 3 is from Mexico.

How many Silverado trucks are made every year?

In 2017, the Chevrolet Silverado sold 585,864 units, with its spiritual sister – the GMC Sierra – selling 217,943 units. The high point for the marquee was 2001, when it sold 716,051 units (the GMC Sierra’s high point came in 2005). The Silverado has held second-place for US sales for nearly every year of the marquee’s existence.

Are all Silverado 2500HD models diesel?

No. All Silverado 2500HD models come standard with the VORTEC 6.0L Variable Valve Timing V8 SFI Engine, which is E-85-capable. Buyers can select the Duramax 6.6L Turbo Diesel V8 Engine as an option, although the difference in prices can be as much as $13,000.

How much does a Silverado weigh?

The 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 has a Regular Cab curb weight of 4,696-4,948 pounds and a maximum gross vehicle weight rating of 6,800-7,000 pounds. For the Crew Cab, the curb weight is 5,036-5,300 pounds and the maximum GVWR is 7,400-7,600 pounds. In comparison, the F-150 currently have a similar weight profile. The Silverado manages this – despite its steel frame – by having aluminum parts where strength is not needed, such as the hood, and by hydroforming their steel box frame.

How can you add a backup camera to a Silverado?

Most Silverado models model year 2016 or better offer backup cameras as a standard option. For older Silverado models and for those seeking to take control of the type of camera they want, a Silverado can easily accommodate an aftermarket silverado backup camera or OEM handle backup camera. A great place to find your perfect backup camera is Camera Source. Camera Source is the leading provider of aftermarket quality backup cameras and accessories. Backup cameras make your vehicle safer and make it easier to backup.

Are Silverado and Sierra parts interchangeable?

Maybe, but not always. To answer this, we need to discuss the relationship between the GMC Sierra and the Chevrolet Silverado. When Chevrolet opted to graduate the trim package “Silverado” to the marquee of the entire truck brand, GMC simultaneously promoted its trim package “Sierra” in a similar way. The thing is, though, GMC and Chevrolet trucks used the same truck base (and still use the same truck base) across both marquees in the same year. The 2018 Silverado and the 2018 GMC Sierra are both based on the GMT K2XX, for example. This does not mean, however, that the Silverado and the Sierra parts are interchangeable. The two marquees differentiate from each other with their trim packages, with add-on options, and with unique features.

Are Silverado and Sierra’s tail lights the same?

No. The Silverado and the Sierra’s tail lights are parts of unique trim packages; they cannot be interchanged without doing some custom body work/electrical wiring or a special harness.

Who sings the Chevy Silverado commercial?

Several songs have appeared in Silverado commercials. The first song to appear was “Like a Rock” by Bob Seger. This was followed by “Our Country” by John Mellencamp, “Strong” by Will Hoge, and “Don’t Leave” by Ane Brun.

What is the Silverado’s towing capacity?

On the low end, the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 has a towing capacity of 7,600 to 12,500 pounds. At the other end of the scale, the 2019 Silverado 3500HD has a towing capacity of 14,500 to 23,000 pounds.

What is the Silverado’s top speed?

The 2019 Silverado has an estimated top speed of 130 miles per hour. This is the fastest Silverado model year to date, as the 2019 models are the lightest Silverado trucks.

What is the Silverado 1500’s width?

The 2018 Silverado 1500 is 51.03 inches at the wheel-housings, with a four-wheel-drive height of 74.13 inches. The 2018 Silverado 2500HD has a mirrorless width of 80.12 inches, with a 4WD height of 77.76 inches.

What is the Silverado’s warranty?

The 2017 warranty includes bumper-to-bumper limited warranty for the first three years or 36,000 miles, a powertrain limited warranty for the first five years or 60,000 miles, and corrosion coverage for the first three years or 36,000 miles. Tires are included in the bumper-to-bumper warranty. Roadside assistance is offered for free with the powertrain warranty. Additional third-party warranty products are also available.

We hope that helped! While this is by no means an exhaustive list of questions, these are some of the common ones we run across as people are shopping for Silverado backup cameras.
