Best Hot Rod Shows In The US

Hot rod enthusiasts have plenty of opportunities to see these sporty cars throughout the year. Whether you live on the Eastern Seaboard, the heart of Texas, or the Pacific Coast, there’s a hot rod show coming to a city near you. Check out some of the top hot rod and custom car shows in the U.S. taking place in 2016 and beyond.

Grand National Roadster Show

Grand National Roadster Show hits the Fairplex in Pomona, California from January 29th to 31st. As the world’s longest running indoor car show, it’s celebrating its 67th anniversary this year with a fun “Nifty ‘50s” theme. Head to the show to watch more than 500 cars vie for coveted awards, such as America’s Most Beautiful Roadster. On Saturday and Sunday, up to 800 additional cars are expected to show up for the Annual Grand Daddy Drive-In, where vehicle owners can show off their hot rods to admiring crowds. This show offers more than just cars, too. You can enjoy live music each day, watch for celebrities, and take part in a charity pinstriping event, where you can bid on artwork to support a great cause.

Portland Roadster Show

Portland Roadster Show is heading to the Portland Expo Center from March 18th to 20th in Portland, Oregon. Since this year is the show’s 60th anniversary, you can expect it to have some extra special events and guest stars, such as Chip Foose of Discovery Channel’s “Overhaulin.” The main draw of the show is the numerous awards given out for categories like King of Customs, Grand Sweepstakes Rose Cup, and World Cup of Hot Rodding, but you’ll find plenty of other things to do. You can have some freestyle pinstriping done on your phone or tablet by pinstripe artist Don Fite, Jr. If you’re a fan of custom-made designs, check out the show’s “Best in the West and Beyond” custom auto craftsmanship event to see the latest innovative designs.

Lone Star Round Up

Lone Star Round Up kicks off at Travis County Expo Center in Austin, Texas on April 8th and winds down on Apr. 9th. Owners bring hot rods and custom cars from all over the country to this show, which started out as a much more humble one-day event. As part of the show’s 15th anniversary this year, you can start the celebration off with a Round Up Kickoff BBQ on April 7th at Old Beyersville Hall. On Friday and Saturday, you can check out the hot rods at the expo center while also enjoying some live musical performances. The Lone Star Round Up also features a car-themed art show and a huge swap meet, where you can buy auto parts to build your own custom car. The show wraps up on Sunday with a slow ride to Oasis Texas Brewing Company for craft beers and tacos.

Viva Las Vegas Car Show

Viva Las Vegas Car Show rolls into The Orleans Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada from April 14th through 18th. Vendors and entertainment will be there on Saturday only, but you can buy tickets and explore the car show area on Thursday, Friday, Sunday and Monday as well. This Rockabilly-themed show, which draws crowds of more than 20,000 attendees, gives you a chance to see pre-1964 cars from all over. Keep in mind that if you have your own vintage car, you can be part of the Free Car and Driver program. If you head there Saturday, you can hear live music, grab some tasty food and drinks from local vendors, check out this year’s prize winners, and attend celebrity signing events.

Hot Rod and Custom Car Show

Hot Rod and Custom Car Show comes to Ocean City, Maryland from October 6th through 8th at the Convention Center. Make plans to attend the show, and you’ll get to see an impressive variety of custom cars and trucks, muscle cars, and American street rods. This hot rod show also offers a great chance to celebrate the end of summer with the Endless Summer Cruisin’ event, which takes place at the Convention Center and several locations throughout the city. At the Hot Rod and Custom Car Show, you can head indoors and have fun with the Tire Change Challenge and Micro Stock Car Racing in the Endless Summer Pit Stop.

Street Machine Nationals

Street Machine Nationals races to the Minnesota State Fairgrounds in St. Paul from July 15th through 17th. More than 50,000 people were in attendance at last year’s show, and this year’s is expected to draw just as many if not more. With over 7,000 high-performance cars participating and no restrictions on make, year, or model, the Street Machine Nationals gives you the perfect chance to see all kinds of hot rods. This family-friendly show also has some great events to attend, such as the Burnout Contest, while the Manufacturer’s Midway has tons of auto vendors from around the country.
